Salmon Mug
I made this mug to celebrate the wonder and beauty of the Sockeye.
The imagery of the fish swimming around the mug celebrates the strength and vitality of this incredible species.
The Sockeye travels hundreds of miles to a spend a lifetime at sea, then miraculously returns to its ancestral waters, to give birth to a new generation.
2010 saw extraoridinary numbers of Sockeye returning to Adam's River. It was the dominant year in a four year cycle, which is usually followed by another strong run. So, 2011 should see large numbers also.
Mugs
In this world of machines and automation, it is gratifying to use something that someone made by hand.
Mugs are one of the best examples of this. The feeling of warmth in the hands is an everyday reminder of the hands that made the object.
I make a variety of mugs, some of which are one-of-a-kind.
I don't always have tumblers,
but there are usually a few pitchers in the studio.
