Utensil Jars in Process

The first thing I do when making utensil jars is get a clean shape to work with. Whether it be simple and smooth, or a nice contour my aim is to create a blank canvas.

They sit overnight and firm up. In the morning I add handles and stamp them with swirls to give character and detail.

At this point I also like to shape the mouths, sometimes squaring them off, other times creating an oval.

Once I’ve attached the handles and stamped the design they’re ready for the kiln.

Utensil Jars

I do about twenty at a time with an aim to make each one unique.
